    Oneness Pentecostalism preaching started in 1913 or 1914. They believe that Jesus is in fact the Father and the Holy Spirit. It is odd that it took eighteen hundred eighty years for Christians to understand that Jesus was the Father and the Holy Spirit.

    Their doctrine is primarily based on one Scripture Isaiah 9:6 For unto us a Child is born, Unto us a Son is given; And the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. (NKJV)

    Is Jesus God? Yes, Jesus is God, however, He is not the Father and He is not the Holy Spirit.

    John 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. (NKJV)

    Jesus was God. Jesus was and is deity. Jesus was with God the Father. Jesus was not God the Father.

    John 17:21 “that they all may be one, as You, Father, are in Me, and I in You; that they also may be one in Us, that the world may believe that You sent Me. (NKJV)

    Jesus wants all Christians to be one. All Christians are one in Christ, however all Christians are not the same person. When Jesus mentions Himself and the Father He says Us. Us is plural not singular.

    Jesus said that Christians should be one in Us. That is be one in the Father and Jesus. That does mean all Christians become Jesus nor that all Christians become the Father.

    John 7:16 Jesus answered them, and said, “My doctrine is not Mine, but His who sent Me. (NKJV)

    Jesus said His doctrine is that of God the Father.

    Jesus did not send Himself to earth as Savior.

    Matthew 12:31-32 “Therefore I say to you, every sin and blasphemy will be forgiven men, but blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven men. 32 “Anyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man, it will be forgiven him; but whoever speaks against the Holy Spirit, it will not be forgiven him, either in this age or in the age to com. (NKJV)

    Jesus is God, however, He is not the Holy Spirit.

    There is one God that is manifest in three persons, God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit.

    Hi Steve thank you for your thoughtful reply.

    It has brought up many areas of possible discussion for me which I have been contemplating since I first read your reply. So I’m going to just start writing and see where it takes me.

    The most obvious thing that stands out for me is your reply has nothing to do with what I wrote. I did not mention the orthodox doctrine of the Trinity at all. Nor did I use any scriptures to back up what I said. What I was doing was stating a principle based on a few scriptures.

    The ESV: John 17:
    20 “I do not ask for these only, but also for those who will believe in me through their word, 21 that they may all be one, just as you, Father, are in me, and I in you, that they also may be in us, so that the world may believe that you have sent me. 22 The glory that you have given me I have given to them, that they may be one even as we are one, 23 I in them and you in me, that they may become perfectly one, so that the world may know that you sent me and loved them even as you loved me.

    The Message:
    Matt. 28-30 “Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly.”

    What I had in mind were two principles stated in these two verses. From John I find that God wants us to be one with Him. I cannot imagine any prayer of Jesus not being answered in the affirmative especially since he points out he is one with God the father. Here as in all of Jesus’ life he was demonstrating the heart of God which is love. And love always desires to be joined with the object of its love.

    My second principle found in the Matthew quote that doing Gods will is a much easier way to live than not doing His will. I have experienced this myself and maybe you have as well.

    And that is it.

    Now for the points you are making. Hundreds of books have been written and blood spilled over the doctrine of a three person Trinity of God. Well enough said.

    What I would like to explore is what it means to be One with God. Does being one with God mean we will all believe the same? Does it mean we have the right to separate ourselves from those who disagree with us? Does it mean God favors me more than you or vice versa? What I see in the doctrine of the Trinity is that The Father and Son and the Holy Spirit are ONE in Essence and Nature which is Love.

    Love has one desire and that is to join. And when we talk of the trinity and us, Jesus’ prayer says ” just as” or “in the exact same way” or ” that they may become perfectly one”. God is in Jesus making him one with God the Father one in Essence and in Nature, “that they also may be in us,” ONE in Essence and in Nature. So Jesus is praying we be like him in his Union to the Father. How is this done? in Love, the Essence and Nature of God. Or in the words of Genesis: “In the Image/Nature and Likeness/Essence.” Restored and reconciled to our original pre-fall nature.

    When we hold up any doctrine as a dividing wall between believers we are not fulfilling Jesus’ prayer. We are not being in the Nature and Essence of God. We are not demonstrating the Trinity but demonstrating its opposite, separation. For example Jesus did not discuss doctrine with the Samaritan woman but life choices. He wanted to help her live an easier life not have correct doctrine.

    I find in Jesus’ prayer a call to be just like Him, in his relationship to the father. The second person of the Trinity. In Colossians 1 Paul tells us “He is the head of the the body”. Does this not make us, the “body”, the second person of the Trinity? And through this he became the minister of reconciliation. There it is again; joining.

    Now if we want to be One with God we must be One with our brothers in love, if not in doctrine, no matter how far afield our doctrines are. We are called to Love in the bond of Peace. Ephesians. 4.3 “endeavoring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.” in this verse we have joining once again in the word, “unity”.

    Now I ask you once again: Do you want to be one with God?. Yes.You are. What could be easier than the will of God.
